BERND HOPPE, MD

Prof. Hoppe studied medicine at the Universities of Bonn, Germany, Zurich, Switzerland, as well as Adelaide, Australia and finally received his medical degree from the Medical School of the University of Bonn, Germany, in 1988. Thereafter he started his education in general Pediatrics first at different places in Germany, as well as in Zurich, Switzerland. His research interest was early focussed on the primary hyperoxalurias. Two specific grants from the German Research Foundation let way to post-doc and research fellow positions, 1) at the Children’s Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland (1990-1992), and 2) at the Children’s Memorial Hospital, Northwestern University, Chicago, IL, USA (1996-1998). Dr. Hoppe is board specified in general Pediatrics, Pediatric Nephrology and Hypertensiology. He received his venia legendi in Pediatrics in 1999 and served as head of the Division of Pediatric Nephrology, Department of Pediatrics, University of Cologne, Germany, since October 1998 until September 2012. Since he's working as head of the Division of Pediatric Nephrology, Department of Pediatrics, University of Bonn, Germany. Current responsibilities include his membership in the steering committee of the European Hyperoxaluria Consortium (OxalEurope), in the board of the Oxalosis and Hyperoxaluria foundation (OHF) and of the International PH Registry, as well as his commitment to the German PH self support group.
